Enhancements to the Program and Scoring
Recently, a user tampered with the scores of some of the top players so that they would get a wrong answer. Many of you have
suggested that this might happen. We didn't act on it because we felt that all our players were playing in good faith. Unfortunately
someone has spoiled it for everyone. So we've taken the scoring off line and have replaced it with a limited manually updated
page of scores without full e-mail addresses. This will be posted once a week and full results will be posted at the end of the
month.
Since you can't check to see if there was a typo in your e-mail address, we've added a feature to check it. On the question
page you'll be asked to type in your e-mail address twice. The program compares the two and won't let you play if they're
different.
Please e-mail Andy if you have any thoughts, concerns or ideas. We
will be making future enhancements to the scoring and may possibly add a registration function with password protection.
Win an Edmonton Year in Review CD ROM
Journal Extra is running a daily trivia contest. Answer an Edmonton trivia question every day until Feb. 20. People who correctly answer the question get entered in the daily draw for a copy of the ITV/Edmonton Journal year in Review CD ROM.
Final January Results
Full January results are now available. Everyone who answered the tie-breaker correctly wins a T-shirt. So we're giving away
12 prizes this month. This as a consolation for the tech difficulties we encountered. The January winners are marked with an asterisk(*).
Trivia Live!
Yup, it's true. You can now chat live right here on @Canada using IRC chat. It's free, it's fun and it's simple.
Got to the Speak Out! chat page to get yourself set up.
Plus since I set it up, you folks get your own chat room called trivia@Ca. Never say we don't give you nothing. ;->
Question update times:
There have been some queries as to when our trivia software updates the day's question. Currently the update occurs at midnight Greenwich Mean Time, as we have players from around the world. In Canada, the updates would occur as follows:
- Nfld: 7:30 p.m.
- Maritimes: 7 p.m.
- East: 6 pm.
- Central: 5 p.m.
- Mountain: 4 p.m.
- Pacific: 3 p.m.
December winners:
Winners of December's inaugural trivia game are marked with an asterisk (*). Distribution of prize T-shirts may be delayed. We'll try to get them to you by the end of the month. Sorry for the inconvenience!
New trivia discussion area!
Our logs show that a ton of you are dropping by to answer @Canada's daily trivia question. Thing is, we don't know if you like
to play trivia by yourself or whether you want to talk to other trivia buffs. So, we've created a special interest trivia discussion area in the Opinion Barometer.
Here are the trivia contest rules:
- Fill in your e-mail and name on our entry page. It's important that you use the same e-mail address everytime you play.
- Answer the daily trivia question using our multiple choice form.
- Our server will tell you if you got the question right or wrong.
- Come back every day for a new question.
- Every month the top 10 scorers receive a @Canada trivia t-shirt.
- The top scorer each month is promoted to our hall of fame.
- In the event of a tie, a trivia question will be e-mailed to the finalists to decide the monthly champ.
- A new game starts at 12:01 a.m. GMT on the 1st of every month!
- If we notice that similar e-mail addresses (i.e. bobsmith@abc.com and bobsmith@xyz.com) are playing,
the most recent addition to our log will be deleted.
- Invalid e-mail addresses will also be removed.
